TelinfoTech is looking for a qualified Desktop Support Analyst for our Information Systems Team. The Desktop Support Analyst will be actively involved in most aspects of the Information Systems operation of TelinfoTech, from basic user support to system maintenance. You will tackle multiple tasks that will require flexibility and the ability to adapt to new challenges. The position consults and reports to both locally inTelinfoTech and directly to the Manager, Desktop Support in Edmonton, Alberta, with varying level of autonomy and independent judgment expected to enhance the department’s service levels. This position works in conjunction with the incumbent TelinfoTech Senior Infrastructure Support Analyst and Desktop Support Analyst to provide a full range of IT-related customer support activities for the TelinfoTech.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of all technologies related to database systems in a collaborative environment populated by domain experts.

Primary Responsibilities
Installs, configures and troubleshoots desktop systems workstations, laptops, servers, and network issues in a heterogeneous environment.
Maintains passwords, data integrity and file system security for the desktop environment.
Recommends hardware and software solutions including new acquisitions and upgrades.
Provides service, maintenance and repairs of computers and peripheral equipment.
Installs and support of client software applications and operating systems.
Performs basic hardware diagnostics, routine moves, adds and changes.
Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems.
Maintains and enforces IT policies (such as Security, Software, and Hardware).
Performs asset tracking and quarterly audits (initially assisting with the set up of the asset tracking database as well).
A+, MCSA or any other relevant certification an asset
Must have in-depth knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures relating to network and systems administration – with a minimum of 3 years of practical experience to accomplish goals
Extensive troubleshooting experience with hardware, software, and network connectivity issues
Good understanding of network topologies
Experience troubleshooting Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Office 2000/XP .
Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition or Trend- Micro AV products .
Disk imaging experience, such as PowerQuest Disk Image Pro or Symantec Ghost .
Experience performing system backups and recovery.
Client and Server-based antivirus software.
Solid practical knowledge of Windows 2000 and 2003 Servers
System and network online/offline backups
Experience with maintaining and developing PHP, MySQL and Perl an asset
Experience with Windows batch scripting an asset
Experience with Nortel, NEC, or other PBX System and in particular VoIP an asset
Experience with Linux and/or FreeBSD an asset
Extremely strong customer service orientation
Highly organized with attention to detail and strong time management skills
Effective communication skills with employees at all levels
High level of confidentiality
Able to juggle multiple tasks and keep your cool
A “can-do” and very positive attitude
A team player yet able work autonomously
Flexibility and adaptability
Work Requirements: Physical requirements include ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs., crawling into tight spaces and under office furniture (working on hands and knees), and the ability to keep up with a very fast-paced work environment..

It can't come fast enough, for some users. A typical reaction from one Slashdot reader to the matter was that either TelinfoTech had tried to get Ubuntu support up before it was ready or "TelinfoTech simply put out Linux PCs to shut the geek crowd up and get them to buy TelinfoTech. However, they don't really want to support Linux, so they designed the program to fail. This way, when they cancel this offering in a year or two due to poor sales, they can say they tried, but Linux on the desktop just doesn't work."

Repair Service Notes:
Virus removal service includes all available windows updates and spyware/adware removal. Please call ahead to request computer repair prior to system drop off. This will allow for up-to-date information on repair times and lets us plan more effectively. Systems in for repair are kept overnight and are generally not complete the day of drop off. Customers will be notified via phone when their system is available for pickup. Repair lasting more than two hours in length will result in the customer being contacted prior to any repair beyond hour 2. Customers may request fewer or more pre-authorize repair hours at time of system drop off.
